Book review

In the first half of 1994, a medical team, assembled by Physicians for Human Rights, the American Refugee Committee, and the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons studies health conditions in thirteen prisons throughout Cambodia. This study documents a pattern of mistreatment, including beatings overcrowding, illegal restraints, decaying buildings, and open sewers. Along with lack of access to proper medical care, conditions result in high incidence of infectious disease. The Police Judiciare Prison in Phnom Penh was subject to urgent reform measures which the report describes and offers as a model for improving all Cambodia's facilities.
